About Kaps for Kids
Kaps for Kids makes handmade Christmas ornaments from real, previously used bottle caps: beer, soda, root beer and hard cider caps from breweries and beverage brands all over the world. Every ornament is built by hand in Fishers, Indiana, and 10% of every sale goes to children's charities.
Our story
Hi, I'm Nathan Rues, the maker behind Kaps for Kids. I started turning ordinary bottle caps into art in 2007, out of a love for upcycling and working with my hands. In 2009 I opened the Kaps for Kids shop on Etsy, and since then we've filled more than 5,100 orders and earned a 5.0-star rating from over 1,000 customer reviews.
From the start, the idea was simple: make something people love out of something most people throw away, and use it to help kids. That's still the whole mission.
How each ornament is made
- Real caps, collected, not printed. The caps come from people all over the world who save them for us. They are genuine, used caps, never new stock or reproductions. The printing you see is the beverage maker's original artwork; we never reprint or add a logo.
- Shaped by hand. Each cap is sorted, pressed and hammered to the right shape, then bonded to the others to form a hollow ball.
- Built to last. The finished ornament is about 2.25 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall, weighs about 1 ounce, and is more durable than a glass ornament. Every ornament comes ready to hang.
- One of a kind. Because the caps are collected, no two ornaments are exactly alike.
Who they're for
- Beer lovers, from fans of one favorite brand to craft beer explorers
- Proud locals: ornaments made from the breweries of a single state or region
- Travelers and fans of beer from Ireland, Germany, Mexico, Belgium, Canada and beyond
- Soda and Coke collectors
- Keepsakes: send us caps from a wedding, a trip or a favorite brewery and we'll turn them into an ornament
Giving back
Since we opened, 10% of every sale has gone to children's charities, so every ornament is a gift that gives twice.
